Saint Emilion Biarritz

> We take our leave of the Count of Pontac and continue the Sauternes tasting trail with a visit to one of the large châteaux of this designation of origin. There are several famous wineries, among them the Château d’YQUEM, one of the best known wines of Bordeaux and, of course, the world. This winery is famous for the longevity of its wines, and, as a bit of trivia, in the summer of 2011 a bottle of 1811 Château d’Yquem wine was auctioned off in London for 85,000€ (approx. $115,000).

> The moment has come to set out from the world of Bordeaux’ wines and châteaux and turn our steps toward the sea, toward the Basque Coast. This evening we will sleep in Biarritz, which was once the preferred summer holiday destination of Europe’s aristocracy and remains a favorite of the French upper class.

> Along the way, as dinnertime will have already arrived, we will stop in a typical restaurant in a small, out-of-the-way town in the Landes region, which was a benchmark for the cuisine of Southwestern France for years. The restaurant has two Michelin stars and is found in many other guides.

Here our recommendation is to order dishes featuring duck or local game. These are their specialties. After dinner we will go to the hotel in Biarritz.
